Is Organic better for you and your baby?
A study conducted in 1993 by the Journal of Applied Nutrition proved conclusively that organically grown fruit and vegetables have a higher nutritive content than conventional produce. Organic apples, corn, potatoes and peas were examined over a two-year period and were 63% higher in calcium, 73% higher in iron, 118% higher in magnesium, 125% higher in potassium and 60% higher in zinc than conventionally grown produce. The organic produce was also 29% lower in mercury.
The biggest risk to your baby (in the womb and whilst breastfeeding) is from the pesticides and herbicides used in conventionally grown fruit vegetables and meat. Children and pregnant women are most vulnerable to the affects of growth hormones used in meat production.

So the answer is a resounding YES!  Buy organic as often as possible … it is better for both of you!

Finding out you’re pregnant (especially if you’ve been trying for a while) is one of the most exciting moments you’ll ever experience.  All you want to do is see that gorgeous little bubba inside you.  So waiting for that first ultrasound scan can seem like an eternity.  Well for those mums to be who just can’t wait, here are some  optimum ultrasound scan dates for the diary:
6 weeks gestation - to establish viability (you’ll see your baby’s heartbeat);
8 – 10 weeks – dating;
12 weeks –
nuchal translucency (you’ll be surprised how human-like he/she at this early stage);
18 – 20 weeks – check growth, welfare and sex (if you want to find out).
After that, it’s all about getting to know their little face which is when a 4-D Ultrasound is recommended.

Your baby’s bones start to form 4-6 weeks into your pregnancy so a calcium-rich diet is recommended.  Milk is a good source of calcium and so are broccoli, tinned sardines (with the bones), soya products, sesame seeds and pasteurised hard cheeses, although watch those fats!

SOMETHING FOR THE DADS
A newborn baby can learn to stick their tongue out very quickly by imitating you.  Practise in private to get it down to a fine art, and then go show off your double act to your mates. They might look at you strangely, but you'll be having a ball. Just don’t tell Mum!

The Natural Cot Mattress

The Natural Cot Mattress uses wool and coir (fibre pith of the coco). Wool surrounds the coir core and is the perfect temperature regulator to keep baby cooler in summer and warmer in winter.  Wool does not absorb moisture and packs down less than cotton and springs. No anti-mould sprays, anti-dust mite sprays or flame retardants are used as wool is a natural flame retardant.  The coir core is naturally anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and dust mite resistant.

The Natural Cot Mattress follow SIDS&KIDS guidelines, $295 from
